used to do

“used to”は、「かつては〜していた（今はしてない）」というときに使う。

• I don’t read books these days.
  I used to read many books.

「かつてはそうだったが、今は違う」という時にも使う。

• This is a gym. It used to be a book store.
• He used to have long beautiful hair.

”used to”に現在形はない。過去について語っているので。
現在について語るなら現在形を使えば良い。

疑問形は“did (you) use do …?”となる。

• Did you use to go there before?

否定形は“didn’t use to …”

• I didn’t use to like watching soccer game.

”I used to do”と”I was doing”の違い。

• I used to watch TV a lot. Now I don’t watch.
• I was watching TV when you called.

”I used to do”は「かつてしていた」。
”I am used to doing”は「することに慣れる」。
意味も構造も異なる。

• I used to live alone. Now I live with my family.
• I am used to living alone.
